LOUISVILLE, KY (June 12, 2013): The Executive Director of a Louisville-based substance abuse prevention program has been invited to the White House Champions of Change Event.
Ted Strader has led the Council on Prevention and Education: Substances (COPES) since it was incorporated in 1981. Under Strader’s leadership, it has evolved into a nationally recognized and innovative prevention agency. COPES today has a national reputation for developing highly effective, evidence-based programs in substance abuse, fatherhood skills, marriage enhancement and prison recidivism.
Each month, the White House Office of Public Engagement pays tribute to ordinary Americans doing extraordinary things in their communities, and invites the Champions of Change to the White House to share their ideas.
This month’s Champions Event will honor individuals who are helping children and incarcerated parents and their caregivers… families impacted by incarceration. According to a White House release, “Thanks to their work, we can mitigate the collateral consequences of incarceration and protect the innocent bystanders of adult decisions.”
The Champions of Change ceremony will be held June 12 at the White House. Mr. Strader looks forward to celebrating the success of these Champions of Change in his field.
Strader said, “it is very affirming to see the President bring attention to needs of children and families affected by incarceration. President Obama’s ongoing attention to fathers, families, and children is uplifting for our entire nation.”
