Career Opportunities at COPES

At COPES, Inc., we focus our work on delivering family strengthening, fatherhood, healthy marriage, pro-social skill building and substance abuse, HIV and violence prevention programming for a wide variety of populations. Since the early 1980’s, COPES has been a local and national leader in the prevention field. Our award-winning Creating Lasting Family Connections (CLFC) curriculum now in use in all 50 states and several other countries, has won many distinctions as a model program or promising practice from such agencies as the U.S. Department of Education, the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP), Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP), and the Office of Family Assistance (OFA). CLFC is listed on the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s (SAMHSA) National Registry of Evidence-based Programs and Practices (NREPP). CLFC is promoted world-wide by the United Nations. COPES provides services to selected, indicated and universal populations in the Louisville area. Recently, COPES’ federally funded programs worked with individuals in substance abuse recovery and those involved with re-entry from prison. COPES has also offered fatherhood programs and Healthy Marriage classes. Currently, COPES is funded by CSAP to reduce the risk of substance abuse and HIV among Black/African American youth and other young adults ages 13-24 through the Enhancing Community Connections (ECC) project.

Career opportunities offer candidates the ability to work first-hand with Ted N. Strader, the CLFC program developer in direct services with local families. The agency offers serious professionals the opportunity to improve presentation and facilitation skills, case management skills, and the opportunity to learn all facets of professional work experience in a prevention agency. Staff are often involved in social marketing, grant writing, environmental approaches to prevention and networking with other related organizations. Many applicants already have certification as prevention specialists (CPS), alcohol and drug counselors (CADC), or Masters in Social Work (MSW) – however, COPES supports employees in acquiring these certifications as part of their own personal and professional growth.
